So you got a new iPad, iPod Touch or laptop for Christmas, but alas, you have no data plan to accompany it. The only way you’re connecting to the interwebs when you’re out and about is via a free wifi hotspot. But where in Manchester can you find one?
Such was the impetus behind the third goodgood manchester Crowdmap, where we aim to to map out the locations of all of Manchester’s free wifi hotspots:
We’ve already plotted some of the hotspots that we know about, including those taking part in the DynWiFi project, but know that there are a lot more that we missed. That’s where you come in.
In true Crowdmap fashion, we need you to share your knowledge of the city’s free wifi hotspots to help us complete the map, which will be a resource for all Mancunians.
So hop on over to the Manchester free wifi Crowdmap and report those hotspots!
Ordinary people have a voice, and interesting things happen when you aggregate those voices and visualize the results. Surprising information and insights can be found.
Crowdmap is a tool that allows you to crowdsource information and see it on a map and timeline. It is the Ushahidi platform, built by the team who created Ushahidi as a way for anyone to run their own crowdsourcing site without having to know the intricacies of running their own server. It’s free and it’s yours to use.
