Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is an international faith-based, comprehensive human service organization whose programs help individuals, families and whole communities lead healthy, safe and productive lives.  The Manchester Salvation Army is dedicated to providing a holistic approach to human needs and suffering physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Helping people in times of need is the backbone of The Salvation Army’s work. They are not only concerned for individuals and families in their immediate needs, but also for their long-term well-being.  Through listening, guidance, and in providing referral services, they help people get back on their feet, regain their independence, and go on to live healthy successful lives.

The Salvation Army offers an array of services including emergency assistance, transition support and spiritual direction.Youth programs at The Manchester Salvation Army include Kids’ Cafesummer camps and a tutoring center.

How you can help:

  • Donate online
  • Volunteer: While we have a fairly strong contingent of volunteers each night to help with the children during their supper and with supervised activities that follow, there are a few months in particular where we are in need. During the months of May & June, when many of our college volunteers go home for the summer, are our greatest needs.  Our kids will reward you with a memorable evening for only a two-hour commitment (5-7 p.m.) on your part.  Give us a call and make a difference in the life of one of our kids.
  • Organize a group of volunteers: You can recruit a team of people that will commit to volunteering at the Youth Center.  This is a tremendous opportunity for staff teams to become involved in a community service. Groups sizes could range from 5 to 20.
  • Corporate Sponsorship of Meals: This will require a donation up to  $300.00 per evening.  This will provide nutritious dinners, drinks, and desserts for 125 children and volunteers. Call us to coordinate a specific day/date. This is quite helpful, especially when the cook is on vacation!
  • Tutor: We need tutors in different subjects. If you are a high school or college student and would like to help a child doing their homework, become a tutor at the Salvation Army Tutoring Center. Open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. during the calendar school year.
